What to Wear with Weight Gain in Menopause

“I believe whole-heartedly that age is a mindset. Biological age is what it is, but I truly believe it’s more about how you feel—how you feel in your body and how you feel about your body.” – Jennifer Grey

What to Wear with Weight Gain in Menopause? When women go through body changes during menopause, it's common for their bodies to undergo various changes, including shifts in weight distribution and body shape. Here are some dressing tips to help women who have experienced body shape changes during menopause:

1. Embrace your new body: It's essential to embrace and accept your changing body. Remember that every body shape is unique and beautiful in its own way. Develop a positive body image and focus on dressing to enhance your best features.

2. Find the right undergarments: Invest in well-fitting undergarments, such as bras and shapewear, to provide support and create a smooth silhouette. A good foundation can make a significant difference in how your clothes fit and how confident you feel.  Once you find a brand of bra that suits you keep a note of that style. You may find as you get older that lace irritates, underwire is uncomfortable and your back measurement has increased or decreased. It is possible to purchase bras online if you now the style that works for you.  This is is another reason to really get to know your wardrobe and to understand which undergarments to wear for each outfit.

3. Dress for your current body shape: Identify your new body shape and choose clothing styles that flatter your figure. Here are some general tips for different body shapes:

What to Wear with Weight Gain in Menopause - Body Shapes

  • O Bodyshape (weight gain in the midsection): Opt for empire waist tops, A-line dresses, and flowy tops that camouflage the tummy area. Asymmetrical hemlines are flattering as it takes away that straight horizontal line emphasising the area. Soft layers create a lovely look and feel comfortable

O Body Shape

  • A Bodyshape (weight gain in the hips and thighs): Choose tops that draw attention to your upper body, such as boat necklines or statement sleeves. A-line skirts and dark-coloured bottoms can help balance your proportions.

  • 8 or Hourglass shape (weight gain all over): Show off your curvy figure and waist with belted dresses or tops, and choose fitted clothing.

  • H Bodyshape or Rectangular shape (less defined waist): Create curves with peplum tops, wrap dresses, or tops with ruching. Consider high-waisted bottoms to add definition to your waistline.

4. Play with colours and patterns: Use colours strategically to highlight your assets and draw attention away from areas you're less comfortable with. Darker shades can create a slimming effect, while brighter colours and patterns can draw attention to your favourite features.

5. Focus on flattering fabrics: Choose fabrics that drape nicely and skim over your body rather than clinging to it. Flowy materials like chiffon, silk, or jersey can be more forgiving and create a flattering silhouette.

Tailoring, Alterations and Comfort

6. Tailoring and alterations: Consider having your clothes tailored to fit your new body shape. A skilled tailor or alterations studio can make adjustments to ensure that your clothing fits you perfectly and flatters your figure.

7. Layering and accessories: Experiment with layering techniques to create visual interest and draw attention to specific areas. Use accessories strategically to accentuate your best features, such as statement necklaces or earrings to draw attention upwards.

8. Comfort is key: Lastly, prioritise comfort in your clothing choices. Look for stretchy materials, adjustable waistbands, and breathable fabrics that allow you to move with ease and feel confident throughout the day.

These are general tips, and every woman's body shape and personal style are unique. Experiment with different styles, have fun with fashion, and choose what makes you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin.

Jewellery to Wear

"I think jewelry can change an outfit more than anything else. Transformation, punch, individuality: One or all of the above are why you should wear jewelry." — Iris Apfel, Designer

Here are some tips on how to wear jewellery:

1. Select jewellery that showcases your individual taste and enhances the natural tone of your skin. Consider timeless and refined pieces like traditional pearl earrings or a delicate necklace in gold or silver that exude elegance and grace.

2. Take into account the size and heaviness of the jewellery. With advancing age, our skin tends to grow more sensitive, hence it is crucial to opt for lightweight pieces that won't result in any discomfort or irritation. Highlight your best features. For instance, if you have beautiful hands, wear a statement ring or a delicate bracelet to draw attention to them.

3. Pay attention to the neckline and collar of your attire while selecting necklaces. V-neck tops or dresses harmonise nicely with pendant necklaces, while higher necklines can be complemented by shorter necklaces or bold, substantial statement pieces. This all depends on your body proportions and variations. If you are unsure about necklaces and correct necklines contact Moana for a complimentary chat.

These suggestions serve as general advice. Most importantly, it is important to wear jewellery makes you feel confident and comfortable.

All About Body Shapes: X Body Shape

Every BODY is Beautiful. — X Body Shape

X Body Shape resembles the letter. Some stylists or image consultants often call this an "hourglass" shape. The X shape is so feminine and curvy, often with a large bust, slim waist, and curvy hips.

X Body Shape vs 8 Body Shape
If you have a defined waist, you might have an X-Body Shape. Some people are confused between X Body Shape and 8 Body Shape. Both of them are known as "hourglass" shapes. Except, X Body Shape has a gradual curve above and below the waist to the widest part of the hip.

What to Wear | Short Body Long Legs
The length of your torso is the distance from the top of your head to the crotch.
The length of your legs is the distance from your crotch to your feet.
Whether you are tall or short your legs may be very long in proportion to your body. Whatever your measurements we are all unique and it is about creating balance and finding styles to suit that are comfortable.
You can work out whether you have a short torso and long legs by standing up straight with bare feet and have someone measure you or have a photo taken directly in front of you to work this out. Photographs are an easy way to visually see this yourself and work out the measurement difference.
